Digital files, editing, printing, costs.....confused??? Las Vegas Professional Photographer

When you start shopping around for a photographer these days, it can be confusing as to exactly what you are getting. Many questions arise such as"Can we just buy prints?" " does it come with the disc?" "do I get to keep all the digital files?" "can I print my own copies?" "do I own the copyright release? "

Today I will start with digital files. Yes I offer them. Are they free??? No. A lot of work goes into editing each digital file, sometimes only as much as a few minutes but others up to 30 min or more. Each photographer has a different artistic vision for the image that they are capturing and various ways of acheiving their "signature look".

My digital files that are "artistically edited" receive a bit more than a basic color correction. These files are ready for print, blemishes removed, eyes brightened, lines softened and distracting background images removed. If I didn't care what the file look will look like in print and displayed on a larger scale then I wouldn't put so much time into the final outcome. These are fully prepped so that you as the client don't have to worry about how to take things out of the photo or remove lines.

Below you will see 2 sets of bride and groom images that I photographed and what they look like when they received the final artistic edit. My clients were thrilled to have these images of their wedding day and loved the vision I had for them.

The last image was not taken by me. It is one that a previous client brought to me. She was out of town at a family gathering where a photographer came to take family photos. The photographer did a fine job but I'm sure he wasn't going to go through every single image and edit each one. Since she already knew I could give the photo the boost it needed she came to me to ask if I could help. She is much happier to have this finished version so that she could print it without lingering background items as well as some other things that I mentioned previously.

This is not the cover nor an image that will be featured in the magazine so I wanted to share it with everyone involved as well as to the public. I did take a couple of hours to go to my first Harvest Festival at Cashman Center last weekend. I really enjoyed going up and down each and every aisle tasting everything from dips, chili, candy apples, balsamic vinigar etc... I didn't know what to expect besides an array of different types of crafts and foods.

The most unique, out of the ordinary booth...I'm assuming since I have never been to a harvest festival was the Grouse and Badger booth where they advertised recycled jewelry and I saw the old typewriter keys peeking up over the glass case. I was instantly drawn to them since, believe it or not, I grew up using ...yes...an old Remington typewriter from at least the 1950's. I couldn't believe that they had cuff links, earrings, necklaces made out of these as well as old watch faces and the inner gears of the watches. It was so super cool I couldn't resist buying a bracelet for myself. Anyone that knows me know that I am not a bracelet person..but I love it and it is funky, unique and different...so of course I just had to have it.

The other booth that stood out was a very clean, sleek hawaiian booth called Ecosystems of Hawaii that had various vases and bowls filled with plant life and these little tiny burnt orange fish swimming in it. It turns out that they were not fish at all...they were Opea' Ula ( miniature red shrimp) that have their own little ecosystem going on. Needless to say I just had to grab one of these too. I told my hubby happy anniversary 9 months early since we were married in Hawaii and this was well...Hawaiian...very sentimental :) We love our little shrimp and we have about 8 of them in that live in our home with our 2 dogs, 2 cats and 3 goldfish.

If you have never been to the Harvest festival...be sure to go next year. You just never know what you may find.

It is always fun to do something different so we took a day trip while I was in San Jose and went up to San Fran to Alcatraz. We wanted to photograph some of my photographer friend Charlene's HS senior clients and do something memorable for them. The island offered so much and allowed us to be so creative. Most people would see it as an interesting, run down island...we looked at it as a diamond in the rough.

This photo was one I did back in December...it was supposed to be a family portrait that went on our Xmas cards but due to early sunset times and my hubby not getting off of work until late...well it just didn't happen as planned this year. I hate for this shot to go to waste so I wanted to post it. It's a shot of my boys I will treasure forever. Especially since they are not at each others throats.

There is a before and then an after as I added some creative lighting. Anyone can take a decent photo and be "okay" with it but leave a professional portrait up to a true professional where you will be amazed at what they can create for you.

Well I'm doing better at my Project 365 this year. That means posting one photo per day...actually shooting a photo a day and uploading it...but since I didn't have internet access the entire first 2 weeks of Jan while I was away I have just been filling in the blanks :)

Decided to play around with a home made soft focus filter that I made. No photoshop was done to this image. Can you photo enthusists guess what I did?

My and my close photographer pals that were at our annual photography convention for SPA were down at the beaches that bordered the Hotel del Coronado. The girl we photographed here was not part of our workshop but was a previous client of one of our photographer friends that volunteered to come down and model for us. I can't say enough about all the wonderful memories we have from last week. Stuff like this really gives us new ideas and a burst of energy to create new ideas for our clients.

I am so excited to be adding monthly destination shoots like Cornoado and hopefully Alcatraz to my line up...Now that would be really different:)

Happy New Year to you all. I am so excited to see what 2010 has in store for me and my family, my friends and my business. As some of you may remember from last year or maybe not even remember at all because I think I only did it twice, I was working on my "Project 365". Well, I think I only made it to day 2. The idea was for me and some fellow photographers to start posting a photo once a day to keep the creative juices flowing. I admit it...I'm a slacker. So I will attempt to do a much better job at keeping up on it this year. Well here I sit at 2:30 am uploading my 1st photo of the new year. Very cliche' I know, but here it is.

Studio 8 Ten is one of 5 locations that supports over 250 individuals, training them each day in the design, production, and sales or over 60 different handmade products that have been developed unique to our company. The sales of these products is one way we are able to support these individuals, and continue to provide our services. Each month we host a local artist or group of artists in our gallery space. This is a great way to give back to our community, as well as bring local artists in touch with our studio artists, and bring the community into the space to show off the talents of the studio artists and impress the pants off of all who come!
